Clara Martinez
Clara Martinez leads External Relations and serves as Senior Manager for Sustainable Investing at the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF), operating at the intersection of capital, institutions, and market development. In this role, she advances the Fund’s institutional and industry positioning, anchors relationships with investors and ecosystem stakeholders, and contributes to ECBF’s sustainability and transparency agenda. With over 15 years of experience across sustainability, international cooperation, and economic development, she brings a cross-sector perspective spanning public, private, and multilateral actors. Prior to joining venture capital, she worked with the Global Start-Up Service for Sustainable Chemistry, co-led by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), shaping the integration of sustainability criteria into early-stage industrial innovation, and served as an Economic Advisor to the Colombian government on the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. She holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship Promotion and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
I hold a firm conviction: sustainable and circular models scale not because they are virtuous, but because they are economically inevitable under resource, regulatory, and resilience pressure. ECBF makes this inevitability investable through active market shaping, not capital deployment alone. That is where my work across sustainability strategy, institutional positioning, ecosystem building, network-driven origination, and industry-facing engagement can directly reinforce investment outcomes and help build more resilient markets.
